The Legacy Story

The story of Legacy Acres begins with two neighboring farm kids whose lives became forever intertwined.

Ervin Acker and Agnes “Aggie” Meinholz grew up on neighboring farms near Ashton Corners along Highway K. They married in 1948, and in 1952 purchased the farm west of Waunakee from Michael F. Simon. It was here that they built not only a successful family farm, but a life rooted in faith, hard work, and community.
Together, Ervin and Aggie raised seven children: Mara, Bill, Ann, Sue, Jean, Sam, and Beth. As devoted members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee, they centered their family around faith, kindness, and service to others.
Life on the farm was always bustling. Over the years, horses, dairy cows, beef cattle, hogs, goats, chickens, geese, and turkeys all called the farm home. Aggie especially loved riding horses across the hilltops, taking in the breathtaking countryside she cherished.

Ervin was well known throughout the area for the fresh produce he proudly raised and sold along the highway. His strawberries, raspberries, and sweet corn became local favorites, but even more memorable was the time he spent visiting with customers and picking berries alongside friends. His warmth and genuine love for people made every visit special.

Meanwhile, Aggie tended a thriving garden that supplied fresh vegetables for countless family meals. She preserved the harvest by canning and freezing vegetables for the winter months and crafted delicious homemade jams from the berries grown on the farm, ensuring the bounty could be enjoyed throughout the year.

Their commitment extended far beyond the farm. Aggie faithfully served as Treasurer for the Town of Springfield for many years, following in the footsteps of both her parents, while Ervin proudly served as Town Constable. Together, they became an integral part of the community they loved.

Ervin and Aggie embodied the values of rural Wisconsin – living close to the land, producing wholesome farm-to-table food, and demonstrating that hard work, stewardship, and generosity create a lasting legacy. Those values were instilled in each of their children and continue to guide future generations.

Today, we are honored to preserve their legacy through Legacy Acres, a beautiful 35+ acre parcel of the original family farm. The roads within the development, Ervins Way and Aggie Lane, bear their names as a lasting tribute to the lives they built and the values they passed on.

We hope every resident of Legacy Acres appreciates this special place, enjoys its natural beauty, and cares for the land with the same love, respect, and dedication that Ervin and Aggie did for so many years.
